Control Resonant

Even when combat's sharp edge eventually dulls, Control Resonant is a great addition to the Remedyverse. While its story follows a more standard framework, its gravitational pull is in the inventive world built around it and the humanization that grounds the paranatural intrigue.

Control Resonant is Remedy’s take on a semi-open-world character-action game, and that might sound like an experience you’ve had before, but at the transdimensional intersection of its impeccable combat design and the studio’s signature strangeness stands something unforgettably unique.

Control Resonant is a more action-RPG oriented follow-up to Control, but in leaving the Oldest House it also leaves behind some of what gave the original its magic.

Control Resonant is an impeccably confident and tantalising sequel that has all the hallmarks of a Remedy classic. It's endlessly stylish and playful; it looks gorgeous, especially on the PS5 Pro, and it manages to address many of the woes that I had with the original Control.Repetitive combat is the big hitch, however, holding the game back from true greatness. Ultimately, though, it's not enough to overrule all that Remedy is doing right with this sequel.

Control Resonant pushes the bounds of what Remedy Entertainment's quirky formula can achieve. An action-RPG that has a few growing pains, but sprouts into something monumentally special by the end.

Control Resonant surpasses its excellent predecessor thanks to its larger scope, both narratively and gameplay-wise. The melee-based combat is appropriately brutal and engaging, while the various skill trees offer a deep level of customization. Remedy bet everything on risky changes with CONTROL Resonant: a new genre, a new protagonist, and even a new environment. Most of them work, making this sequel well worth purchasing for fans of the studio and the IP, but it's also clear that Remedy is not quite an expert at making open world action RPGs, as most shortcomings fall squarely in that category. Unfortunately, despite the ambition, this is unlikely to be the big breakthrough they were hoping for.

Control Resonant is one of the most visually refreshing games we’ve ever played. Remedy has crafted a more expansive and grand experience than its predecessor, focusing on thoughtfully designed levels and a presentation that’s unmatched.
