LABYRINTHOS: The Depths Want You is a dark fantasy visual novel with roguelite gameplay elements that present the journey of a single man to reclaim his past. Despite what would be a long struggle against forces of Chaos and the temptations of flesh, he ascends the tower to discover more about himself, and by the end, finally reclaim his freedom. There are a lot of interesting story elements scattered around that readers can appreciate if they piece them bit by bit, but the pacing relative to the frequency of erotic content makes it a little bit hard to digest the storyline as it unfurls. It requires a lot of persistence from the reader to get through the slog of its simplistic gameplay loop to finally get to the meat of its narrative. By that point, it might be hard to say whether or not it was worth the trip. For people who are keen on reading consistently interesting dialogue, this one might not be for you. Between the lackluster gameplay and the buffet of honey pots, there are too many stopping points that break the flow for what otherwise would have been a fine dark fantasy story. But for those who like equal amounts of plot twists and curves, you might have found your next interesting pick-up. There’s a protagonist that serves as an easy self-insert, and there’s plenty of ladies to woo along the way. I highly recommend it for people who like picking up girls in dungeons without the need to make any commitments.
