If you’re a fan of ARPGs and Souls-likes and enjoy some competition in your gaming, then Mistfall Hunter is a game for you. It’s much more fun with friends, so if you can convince two others to pick up the game, you’ll have a much better experience.

Mistfall Hunter is unlikely to retain the audience it needs to stay in the spotlight for years to come, but in any case, it’s a commendable first effort for a new studio.

Mistfall Hunter wants to be a seasonal extraction game with soulslike combat, and I think the framework is there to deliver something amazing in the long run.

Mistfall Hunter is an ARPG with the potential to stand out from other titles in the genre, boasting solid combat, attractive visuals, and a good variety of classes—making it an excellent choice for those looking to get into the genre with something more "unique."However, a weak narrative, questionable microtransactions, unbalanced archetypes, and region-locking that prevents free server switching could deter potential players; yet issues like these can easily be resolved through updates.

Mistfall Hunter is a pleasant surprise. I usually tend to steer clear of online-focused games, but the satisfying combat and addictive gameplay loop kept me coming back with genuine interest. It certainly has its flaws, including matchmaking issues, underwhelming enemy AI, and some questionable control choices, but the overall package is a solid one, wrapped up in some attractive visuals.

Mistfall Hunter has the bones of something that could be great. However, the current, bare-bones state of the game is full of unnecessary restrictions that limit solo play, an awkward core loop, and predatory monetization tactics befitting of a mobile game. The game’s beautiful world and exciting setting simply were not enough to help me see past its flaws, and while I can see where some players would enjoy the game, I personally would call it “mid” at best.

I found myself drawn to play this game more and more; for each loss, there was just as much of a victory in a game as fresh as this. It is visually fun and has an entertaining story to follow, while also offering some “hidden” fun that I won’t spoil—the game’s mysteries and action don’t leave you in the dark, only to play more. I am personally excited to see what comes next with the huge potential Mistfall Hunter has.

Mistfall Hunter arrived with a rocky beta, but the full release proves there's real substance beneath the mist. Its combat is slower and heavier than most extraction shooters, yet it hides a surprisingly high skill ceiling that rewards patience over button-mashing. Add a tense extraction loop, six distinct classes with real identity, and a technical package that runs remarkably smooth on Unreal Engine 5, and you get a game that punishes recklessness but pays off handsomely for those willing to learn its rules.

Mistfall Hunter is a great time on Xbox Series X/S and fantastic fun as a squad of three. If you’re a fan of extraction shooters, then you may appreciate the difference in this game. It’s atmospheric and can be tense, especially when encountering other solo players or squads. Its satisfying combat and runs that have that constant risk in return for reward are what keep the gameplay loop satisfying. The developers have recently unveiled a compelling roadmap that should keep things interesting. Overall, it’s well polished and will keep you coming back for countless hours if you love the concept of diving in and extracting loot and going back for more.

Mistfall Hunter is an intriguing, albeit imperfect, title that manages to capture the essence of the tension found in extraction games, applying it to an atmospheric medieval fantasy world.
