Kernel Hearts may not become anyone’s favourite roguelite, but it’s a stylish journey to heaven and hell and back worth taking.
Read full review ↗While the game takes some big swings in the narrative and soundtrack departments, ultimately a shallow combat system, poorly implemented roguelike systems both in and out of attempts, and severe issues of difficulty and repetition hold the game back quite a bit.
Read full review ↗An action RPG with roguelike elements in which you must save the world by slaying all Angels and God
Read full review ↗While it has a fascinating story, and a solid look, its gameplay doesn’t meet the standard set by its other elements
Read full review ↗Kernel Hearts is a title that aims neither for the technical depth of major action games nor the vast item pool of roguelikes, yet still manages to offer a unique and enjoyable experience.
Read full review ↗Kernel Hearts is a competent debut project that clearly showcases the creativity of the Argentine studio Whitethorn Games. The team succeeds in delivering an interesting universe, beautiful environments, and satisfying combat. However, it falls short in areas that hinder the roguelike experience—such as weak bosses, repetitive enemies, and a limited range of available moves. Even so, it is an experience I recommend, especially since most of the aforementioned issues would not be difficult to fix.
Read full review ↗With its charming presentation, exceptionally fun 3D combat, and rewarding unlockables and level-up systems, Kernel Hearts is a blast. ❤️
Read full review ↗Being intrigued by a game’s art style is a valid argument to try it. Perhaps that is one of the reasons players clamor for demos. Because you will never know how a game feels until you actually get to play it. I do not regret playing Kernel Hearts. Its dazzling anime cutscenes and eye-catching art style are enough to take it for a ride, even if a short one. But its floaty combat and lack of meaningful rewards on each run might deter players from committing in the long term.
Read full review ↗Kernel Hearts is a weird but fun mix of magical girls, biblical monsters, roguelike runs, and hack-and-slash combat. The bosses, soundtrack, art style, and character builds are great, but regular fights can get repetitive and the early progression is a little slow.
Read full review ↗Kernel Hearts does not aim for the depth of Devil May Cry or NieR, and it lacks the huge item pool of other roguelites. What you get is solid build variety and progression that keeps exploration rewarding. It opens up levels instead of trapping you in rooms, and the bosses are the best part.
