Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy DX is a successful sequel that not only builds on the strengths of the first game but also surpasses them in many ways. The game combines an enchanting visual style, atmospheric music, and natural character development, giving it a fresh and mature feel. The dynamic combat system remains one of the game’s biggest draws, and the new features in the DX edition—particularly the Custom Combat mode—take the strategic aspect even further. Alchemy is, as always, robust, fun, and offers plenty of room for creative experimentation. Minor shortcomings, such as the story’s lighter tone or the slight repetitiveness of certain mechanics, ultimately take a back seat to the game’s overall strong impression. The DX version also adds a wealth of content and useful tweaks that make the experience smoother and more fulfilling. Overall, this is a game that retains its charm, grows alongside its heroes, and, above all, offers a genuinely joyful adventure—now in its best possible form.

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy DX has smaller but more meaningful updates than the first DX game in the series. It is still less important narratively to the trilogy than either of the other titles, but it is the title in which gameplay became much more fun and engaging.

Despite the original Ryza 2 being a strict upgrade over its predecessor in almost every way, the new DX version delivers only minor overall improvements to the base game itself. In particular, the character reintroductions and accompanying story are rather disappointing compared to the added utility of the more controversial mascot character.
