A gorgeous roguelike dungeon crawler that remains compelling and exciting throughout, despite a lot of grinding.

The Bergson's are charming but their quest is a bit too lifeless. A middling dungeon crawler elevated by its style.

Dead Mage belts three home runs: one for the story, another for the action, and the last for the deep and interesting RPG elements

My opinion of Children Of Morta has improved, and I can see it finding a happy audience. But if I wasn’t reviewing it I doubt I’d have got there. It leads with its worst foot and you have to grind for hours to drag the other one into the dance.

It's not perfect; load times are lengthy, text is painfully small, and there are some unusual graphical glitches here and there. However, Children of Morta is overall a great success, and manages to forge a unique identity.

Children of Morta carves out a nice little space for itself in the rogue-lite genre. It's a beautiful-looking game that's obviously had a lot of love and care poured into it. Its dungeons, although perhaps not the strongest in terms of variety of enemies, are certainly refreshingly challenging, and all of the upgrade systems, pickups and playable characters on offer ensure there's plenty here to keep things feeling fresh over the fifteen-to-twenty hours it will take you to see things through to the end.

Like Seraph before it, part of the enjoyment with Children of Morta lies not just in cleverly rampaging through wave after wave of foe, but also in the relief of surviving the ordeal through a measured balance of skill and strategy.

Children of Morta combines all the best bits from rogue-likes mixing a compelling story, unique character playstyles and making the game really enjoyable to play. Non-rogue lovers shouldn't be deterred as this game has plenty to offer and soon will have you hooked on it's quirky family members and addictive gameplay.

While the combat may not be the most exciting offering in the roguelite genre, there’s still a lot to love in Children of Morta. Beautiful pixel artwork keeps things visually interesting and is especially well done in touching family moments.
