Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu's Wrath

Runs with its classic side-scrolling look and feel, and throws plenty of classic platforming and action at you to boot

Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu's Wrath, despite an interesting premise and good ideas with its protagonists, fails to make our journey through its world one we will remember.

The underlying switching mechanic is strong and most of the platforming is solid in theory. It feels like this one needed more time in the oven, but a more refined version–or a sequel left to gestate–would probably provide a great time. As it stands, Chronicles of 2 Heroes is a mildly frustrating experience that I had to convince myself to keep playing for this review.

Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu's Wrath is challenging and knows how to rely on the aesthetics adopted and the metroidvania model of progress, but it is in the dynamics of changing characters in real time where its true differential lies.

Chronicles of 2 Heroes is a solid platformer with a few quirks. Its challenges are unevenly distributed and its physics are rough, but I like the hero switching concept and I found a lot of fun in taking on some of the game's difficult puzzles. I can definitely recommend this game to the folks that love pixel-perfect jumps.

With plenty to explore, mechanics that are mostly tight and engaging, and loads of of retro-infused elements, there's a little gem here within the chronicles of two cunning heroes.
