Why play it

Something once great lies dormant beneath the cold streets of Armorica's isolated capital, L'Amour. When it sleeps it dreams, and when it dreams it hunts. Fates converge as a young man's mysterious death brings sibling vampires Aurore and Lux Amanite into a world of occult obsession and corporate corruption. Meanwhile, police inspector Ryouko Otsuki arrives in L'Amour to find a city whose identity is just as severed and broken as her own…

Visual novels are a niche genre that I have often struggled to truly enjoy. I have played (and reviewed) several over the years. They are not my favourite genre by any stretch of the imagination, yet something about Cross the Moon just spoke to me.

Despite the lack of choice and interactivity, Cross The Moon is a great gateway for anyone looking to venture into the world of Visual Novels. L'Amour's mysteries, the charisma of the protagonists, its impeccable music and unique aesthetics are enough factors to invite players to embark on this journey. A few errors in the text and lack of polish in editing can cause some discomfort, but nothing that interrupts the overall experience of this hidden gem in Switch's eShop.

With no alternative endings (again, there are no decisions to make, so no way to split off the narrative), it's one-and-done with the visual novel Cross the Moon. But it's priced accordingly, and should be an interesting read for fans of mysteries and the supernatural.

I'm glad that, on a whim, I purchased and gave it a go on Nintendo Switch, because once you give it a go, it rewards the risk you took on playing it. Cross The Moon has a lot going on and all of it is quite brilliant.
