Story and worldbuilding

Hundreds of years after the battle for the red soil of Earth Prime, humans colonized the Blue Planet. The Outers – people born with special abilities caused by exposure to the unique energy resource Femto – grew resentful of their mistreatment by humanity on this new and dangerous planet. They seized control of the Gardens, orbital defense satellites, where they rule the planet below with military might as the Sovereign Axiom. As the humans on the planet’s surface struggle to survive against the elements and a race of organic-mechanical creatures known as Immortals, a resistance organization called the Reclaimers has appeared to challenge the Axiom’s brutal rule. When an Outer soldier crash-lands in the desert outside humanity’s largest settlement, they may become the key to turning the tide in humanity’s latest revolution.

When the central gameplay loop of Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion starts to click, this is an action RPG with serious potential. But all too often, the joys of customising your mech and the thrills of hectic battles are held back by tedious design. With its barren open world structure and constantly expanding progression systems, it feels like Titanic Scion stretches itself too thin - but if you can stomach the missteps, there is a deeply addictive quality at the game's core.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is a decent mech game with plenty of depth in its weapons setups and lots of cool loot to discover in its large open-world maps. The combat is flexible, it's fast, and it's very often plenty of fun. However, performance issues - which are also present on other platforms, so don't sweat it too much, Switch 2 owners - make for a janky experience in places, with mushy controls and limp feedback. It's just not nearly as polished as it could be in this respect. With stutters loading into new areas and low-res textures a common sight (again, also on other systems), the overall feeling here is of a game that needs a few patches and tweaks to get it where it needs to be.

Daemon x Machine: Titanic Scion is a marked improvement over its 2019 predecessor, though it isn't without its shortcomings on Nintendo Switch 2.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is a brilliant mech title held back by a dull open world and controls that aren’t always tight enough.

Although I wasn't initially sold on the open-world and the shift from giant robots to mecha suits, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is a fantastic game. Its high-speed action combat, thousands of customization options, and addictive gameplay loop make it a title you can easily lose yourself in. Unfortunately, it is held back in a few areas, mainly graphically, but despite this, it's a fun experience that mecha fans will not want to miss out on.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion isn’t the perfect mech game, but it offers plenty of good stuff for anyone craving robots on their Switch 2. The action and gameplay loop are interesting enough to sink your teeth into, and the open world—as visually uneven as it may be—shows that this sequel has more ambition than its predecessor. So Titanic Scion is all about making compromises: it’s not the absolute best in the genre, but anyone who loves mechs, loot, and customization will likely enjoy it. Do you have a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or PC at home in addition to a Switch 2? Then playing the game on those platforms is probably the better choice.

It suffers from some flaws, mostly related to narrative and visual components, but it delivers where it counts: mechanics, systems, and gameplay. If you can power through its lackluster story and forgive its dated assets, you'll find a remarkably deep, daring mech action game.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is a fantastic sci-fi mech action RPG that stands well on its own. It has a large open world with great customisation options, fast and fluid combat and the music is also awesome. Playing on PlayStation 5 I never had any dips in framerate and If you like Mech action and RPG's then you can't go wrong
