Story and worldbuilding

Fight in the most iconic battles of the Western Front, including Carentan, Omaha Beach and Foy and more. This is combat at a whole new scale....with lumbering tanks dominating the battlefield, crucial supply chains fuelling the frontlines, you are a cog in the machine of colossal combined arms warfare. Hell Let Loose puts you in the chaos of war, complete with deep player-controlled vehicles, a dynamically evolving front line, and crucial unit-focused gameplay that commands the tide of battle. Featuring more than 17 sweeping maps modelled on real reconnaissance images and satellite data, the entire battlefield is divided up into large capture sectors - allowing for emergent and constantly unique gameplay that pits two forces of fifty players in a fight to the death across fields, bridges, forests and towns on an ever-evolving front line. When a sector is captured, it will generate one of three resources for your team, creating a complex meta-game that will influence your team’s march to victory.

Hell Let Loose is a fun and accessible introduction to milsims, but I miss the complexity.

Hell Let Loose might just be of the most immersive and anxiety-inducing WWII shooters out there, with an insanely high learning curve.

Hell Let Loose is a dream for enthusiasts of hardcore first-person shooter titles with an almost forced squad-based element. Would I recommend this for solo players? Only if you’re willing to speak up to others online, make friends and work with others. This game is not made for lone wolves.

Hell Let Loose is an excellent World War 2 simulator but if you do not play on a large organized group, the game trips over itself, as players are permanently lost on the map, away from each other.

Hell Let Loose is a different type of shooter from what most players will expect but one that is rewarding so long as you have proper teamwork. When you are on a team that is properly communicating and coordinating the feeling you get from this game is awesome. On the other hand, when you aren’t on one of those teams it can make it very easy to want to jump ship into one of the many other shooters available.

Hell Let Loose is a different approach to war games, with a slower pace than those of other popular franchises and an impressive level of realism.

Caveats noted, playing Hell Let Loose with a decent squad of players willing to communicate, a competent commander, and skills sufficient to the moment is a unique, exciting, and extremely rewarding first-person shooter experience, ultimately much more satisfying than the arcade shooters to which most players are accustomed. Getting to the point of real comfort with the game’s mechanics, interface and team systems takes a commitment of time and the willingness to learn from others and the game’s written material, and is definitely not for everyone. Hell Let Loose does a great job of reminding us how important teamwork, communication, and reliance on others can be, not just in war but maybe in the broader context of our lives.

Hell Let Loose does little to overcome the downsides of its realistic take on World War 2 and strategic gameplay, but manages to reap some rewards out of it as well.

Hell Let Loose is a good game and will appeal to people who love battles on a huge scale. Unfortunately, but only to them, because others will soon bounce back from the title.

Hell Let Loose is one of the best WWII shooters, certainly not suitable for everyone due to his hardcore gameplay but still rewarding if played with the right collaborative spirit.
