Impostor Factory

Impostor Factory's emotional story might have a slightly tired formula, but it feels fresh and cinematic, and cheerfully posits that a fake, imaginary life can be as fulfilling as a real one.

A fitting finale to a phenomenal trilogy, Impostor Factory explores life with depth and accessibility that respects the audience.

Kan Gao, along with his team at Freebird Games, get it right again and deliver an indescribable experience with Impostor Factory. With three main games and a spin-off (A Bird Story), this is one of the few series that hasn't gotten it wrong and that keeps my enthusiasm high for what may yet lie ahead.

Impostor Factory is a memorable experience that makes the player go through a series of emotions. The story is interesting, the characters are charming, and the gameplay mechanics are simple as they can be. It could be said that the game is, in fact, different than what we are used to from Freebird Games, but it is a fresh change regardless

While it wasn’t the sequel I was hoping for, it does still have its own intriguing narrative. It does get off to a slow start, but things pick up once you hit the second act and gets really compelling in the third act. You don’t necessarily have had to have played the other entries before starting Impostor Factory, but you will certainly get a lot more out of the experience if you are familiar with them first.

Existing fans of the series will enjoy another well-written and beautifully presented adventure that once again showcases Freebird’s signature wit and humor amidst more emotionally charged moments. And even though the story focuses solely on Quincy and Lynri, you’ll come to understand them much better than you’d expect over the course of three to four hours of gameplay.

Although I personally don't like visual novels, I enjoyed every minute of my five-hour journey.

On its own, Impostor Factory is a decent adventure with occasionally interesting story elements and mostly enjoyable dialogue. But as part of the otherwise great series, it's a disappointing misstep.

Impostor Factory is a surprisingly beautiful game that questions what it means to have a meaningful life. It tells a cyclical narrative that still manages to feel honest and emotionally raw. It works best if you go into it with as little information as possible, so I won’t say much more than that on how the story unfolds.

It's really unfair assign a mark to this game. It's unfair not because it's a bad game, but because it's complex and almost disrespectful to crush this work into a sterile number. A videogame that is also a "non-videogame", and it knowingly turns this flaw into strength, telling us a love story that turns into a reflection upon reality and the nature of choosing, surrounding it with a beautiful painting done with pixels.
