Why play it

Similar to its predecessors, the game is a third-person shooter where players take control of the Plants or the Zombies in either a cooperative or competitive multiplayer environment. The game features 20 customizable gameplay classes, six of which are new to the franchise, and they are classified into three groups: attackers, defenders, or support. Each camp also has a new team play class that allows players of the same class to combine forms when they fight against enemies. Players can compete against each other in various competitive multiplayer modes, including the objective-based Turf War mode and the team deathmatch variant Team Vanquish. The game also features several player-versus-environment open zones which allowed players to explore, find collectibles, and complete quests. Split-screen local multiplayer is also available for all gameplay mode

Story and worldbuilding

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville takes place after the events of Garden Warfare 2. The plants presumably won the battle for Zomburbia and trapped all of the zombies in a "Smell Jar". The plants once again had control of Suburbia, and humans did not have to worry about their brains being eaten until the zombies escaped. Now the Plants and Zombies battle once more.

PVZ: Battle for Neighborville's messy maps and repetitive solo campaigns are rescued by an exciting and cute roster and varied multiplayer modes.

Despite strong competitive and cooperative multiplayer action, the PvE elements fall short of those marquee modes. The progression leads to more frustration than satisfaction

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville doesn't go out of its way to surpass expectations, but it's a silly, strange, joyful game – one I'm glad was greenlit. If PopCap can continue what it started, this stands a fighting chance of becoming my favorite PvZ spin-off. I hope it gets that opportunity.

If you're looking for a fun, colourful team shooter with plenty to see and do, Battle for Neighborville could be just the ticket. If you weren't swayed by the prior Garden Warfare titles, you'll likely want to pass on this, but for the sheer silliness of its characters and the world they exist in, it's well worth sinking your teeth (or vines) into. You may never want to leave Neighborville.

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle For Neighborville Complete Edition more than lives up to its name. A huge amount of content, lots of replayability, and an overall charming aesthetic make this an easy recommendation for anybody looking for a solid new shooter for their Switch. That said, just bear in mind that it often runs into performance issues and that the single-player offering can prove to be a little repetitive in the long run. If you can get past those issues, this release will surely prove to be worth both your time and money.

Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighbourville is a fun, engaging and content-filled game that, in addition to offering a strong online player-vs-player component, is packed full of content that will keep even the most ardent of solo-players engaged. Proving that Electronic Arts can get live service games right, because this will be a live service game thanks to the pending premium currency store, this is still one game that has taken me by surprise and I can do nothing but recommend to anybody and everybody.

Battle for Neighborville: Complete Edition is a fun, colorful, silly game with a good amount of content to keep the player busy. While the game is older, this updated version is the obvious choice for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
