Why play it

Skautfold: Moonless Knight is a very open-ended Metroidvania, featuring a totally unique battle system. Set in an alternate history Japan in 1900, Lovecraftian horrors have plagued the world, as our very Moon opens up and becomes our end.

Skautfold: Moonless Knight doesn't try to compete with the giants of the genre. It lacks the budget, depth, and polish of the major modern soulslike and Metroidvania titles.

It’s a failure of a Metroidvania, and it’s a bad and clunky action RPG as well, with progression mechanics that fail to synergize with the rest of the gameplay and ultimately drag the experience down even further. The experience is wholly disappointing, and Moonless Knight is simply not worth a player’s time.

A top-tier pixel art adventure that rewards your curiosity, even if the lack of a proper map marker and accessibility hold it back from greatness.

Skautfold: Moonless Knight is one of those games that grabs you without warning. Its dark and mysterious world compels you to explore and carefully consider every move, and the challenging combat keeps you constantly on your toes. The console version successfully captures the essence of the original PC game. Ultimately, it's a game to be enjoyed at your own pace, leaving you with the feeling of having discovered something truly special, despite being part of a franchise with five installments already.
