Dumb fun that strikes a great balance between racing and krumping. It just needs a few more humies playing it.

Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks should be commended for trying to fill the enormous Twisted Metal-sized hole that the gaming industry has had for so many years.

Ultimately, I enjoyed my time with Speed Freeks. Mostly… It’s hard to be too critical of the lack of solo content and game modes, especially for the price. There is fun to be had here, especially with friends. Plus, the creation utilities work surprisingly well using a controller, and was something I didn’t even expect to be included in the console version. The love for the 40k universe is on display in full force; there’s no doubt about it. Franchise veterans will absolutely get a kick out of burning rubber as a bunch of Orks. That aside, Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is still a competent vehicle combat game with some genuinely good ideas. It’s just a shame there isn’t more of it. So, with all that said, Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks receives the Thumb Culture Silver Award!

Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freaks is a hit because it knows exactly what kind of game it wants to be.

I’m a fan of the car combat genre and was actually interested in Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks. But unfortunately, it falls pretty flat. This feels like an early access game that should be free to play given the limited variety. Due to being multiplayer centric, it’ll ride or die based on its fanbase. The combat in itself is actually pretty fun and there’s a great selection of vehicle with unique strengths and weaknesses, but that doesn’t make up for the limited gameplay. Always happy to see neglected genres getting some love, but Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is disappointing. Unless you need everything Warhammer 40,000 or you’re a multiplayer type of person, then Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks, but for those hoping for some depths will be disappointed. It left me wanting more, but if and when they add more content, I’ll have moved on to something else.

Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks introduces an entertaining concept that blends racing and combat in a chaotic style, but the execution falls short. A lack of players, repetitive content, and a weak progression system quickly drain the game’s appeal. It can be fun in its early hours, but it needs major updates before it can be seriously recommended.

Speed Freeks is bleeding out players fast, and it doesn’t feel like it’ll be long before all matches are filled with bots. The game has some great characters and environment designs, as well as a very fun customization system, but the bot-filled online-only matches make it a difficult title to recommend.

The spirit of Gorkamorka lives on in Speed Freeks, with a frantic blast of multiplayer mayhem the perfect antidote to the grim dark realities of other Games Workshop titles.
