Why play it

"WE ARE DOOMED is a twin-stick shooter where you zap polygon baddies with an absurdly overpowered laserbeam. Dive head-first into the action with reckless ambition, charge the SUPERBEAM, and zap everything out of existence in an instant. Chase high scores or just enjoy the beautiful explosion of geometry, colour and light."

We Are Doomed delivers a satisfying-feeling twin stick shooter, but does so without any flair whatsoever.

As a whole, We Are Doomed doesn't quite meet its asking price. While what's here can be compelling for a short while, it quickly loses appeal. However, it's certainly not doomed, as it's a solid arcade shooter with a gorgeous – if occasionally distracting – art style and fitting music. Take it all in slowly, then, and you may be able to appreciate it like a fireworks display that you're in control of.

We Are Doomed makes a good attempt at being a compelling and addictive twin-stick shooter, getting a lot of things right along the way. There are some problems with the basic design though and the very limited amount of modes on offer means that unless you're hooked by beating your own best scores or unlocking the limited (but tough to obtain) number of achievements, it'll be over way, way too soon.

We Are Doomed was a great twin-stick shooter last year and it's only gotten better with the year's worth of upgrades.  The enemy types and challenges are carefully tuned to allow massive destruction, but still require good planning and split-second decisions as the safe areas gradually disappear.

Those seeking an instantly accessible arcade-action thrill are going to find it with We Are Doomed. Like many arcade games before it, however, that thrill does wear off quickly.

We Are Doomed is a great, easy-going experience that can easily be picked up and played at any time. It boasts some beautiful visuals, feels smooth and polished, and while it doesn't offer too much in terms of innovation for the genre, what it is doing is great. There isn't a lot of content to explore, but what is here is a lot of fun. Check it out if you are interested.

This earlier sibling from the developer behind Graceful Explosion and Super Crush KO is a twin-stick shooter that certainly distinguishes itself from its competitors with its very specific visual style...

From my point of view, We Are Doomed lacks of an addictive gameply, but I can see what the developers attempted to achieve; maybe they were aiming too high. There is plenty of room left for improvements; and that “room” is probably bigger than the satisfaction this game could ever provide you. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the game is bad, I’m just saying that I’ve seen this before, and there is no surprise elements at all; don’t say I haven’t warned you. What this game needs at all costs is a free content update adding weapons and positive/negative buffs like slow motion or blurry screen; it’s just an example of the ton of things you could add! Hopefully Vertexpop takes this feedback into account; I’ll be happy to update and increase my final score if they do it! Now, with that being said, I just want to make clear that I did actually enjoy the game a little bit, but I couldn’t stop thinking of ways to improve it, and that kept me generally distracted. We Are Doomed feels like an open canvas still waiting to be painted.

We Are Doomed is a game that keeps you paying attention throughout by appearing to be quite simple, but in fact is very difficult to completely master
