Although Fallen Angel suffers from some annoying performance issues and long load times when reloading after death, it also does some things right.

This is a bit of an odd title to review in some ways, as having spent time with it I could see people going in two very different directions...

While I wouldn’t list Fallen Angel as my game of the year, it’s definitely entertaining while it lasts. It’s hard to enough to be satisfying, has a fantastic variety of areas, and the combat is fast and snappy. There’s a few flaws here and there, namely in a few minor bugs and the combat stagnating partway through, but it’s definitely worth the asking price.

It’s when you begin to view Fallen Angel as a gameplay-centric game that things begin to click; between the unexpected openness of the world and the new weapons, perks, and melee attacks that are constantly being handed to you, you’re always given more than enough to break the difficulty wide open. And even when you feel absurdly empowered, it’s still possible for Fallen Angel to humble you with unexpectedly close fights.

Fallen Angel is quite enjoyable for fans of pixel-art, boss-fight driven gameplay. There is a wide variety of weapons, equippables, and consumables to search for throughout the Heavens, with each item changing how the game plays.
