Super Arcade Football

Super Arcade Football does a great job at creating a nostalgic experience that's able to channel one of football's most famous gaming series, and with a simple, accessible, as well as fast-paced gameplay what we get is a game that might not be the most in-depth football experience ever made, but it certainly manages to build a fun and enjoyable game. Pity for solo players, though, who due to a poor AI will find themselves bored compared to their multiplayer peers.

While Super Arcade Football puts you into the action instantly, it would have been nice if it would have shown me the ropes before expecting me to win my first match. The retro look and simple controls make picking up and playing with friends who haven't played before easy and welcoming. For a short, fun party game without much on the line, you can't go wrong. But for the single-player experience, while not terrible by any means, it wears out its welcome long before you actually finish it.

Video games are supposed to be about fun, and Super Arcade Football accomplishes exactly that. Whether it's bending the rules in a custom tournament or playing through the story mode, Super Arcade Football is a cool 16-bit throwback with enough there to keep you entertained. With its simple control scheme and challenging AI, it's a game that's easy to pick up yet hard to master. Five years in the works, it's clear that there's a market for indie footy titles and not just FIFA or eFootball.

Given its simplicity and natural charm, it is really hard to dislike Super Arcade Football, and the longer you play, the more compulsive it becomes.

It’s not the game it was five years ago, but Super Arcade Football is all the better for it. You can do much worse than use a classic as the basis for your title, and it successfully marries the still solid gameplay aspects of Sensible Soccer with some modern graphical enhancements and general quality-of-life improvements to deliver a football game that offers a cheap viable alternative to the juggernauts of the genre. Well worth a shot (pun only slightly intended).

While it's not perfect, Super Arcade Football is an entertaining way to enjoy the beautiful game.

Super Arcade Football really surprised me, it is a smashing game. From the moment you start to the moment you stop, you will have fun. I see some controversy online, particularly Steam reviews, about this game how apparently it completely changed when the game launched on September 6th from the Early Access program on Steam. It was a 3D-based football arcade game and of course as we now know it’s a 2D retro-inspired football game. However, for me, I think this game has taken the right direction. I absolutely love it.
