Wartile impresses with its unique take on a cooldown-based tactics game. The visual presentation, assortment of levels, and replayability are great to see, but while the move to Nintendo Switch might open the game up to more players, the smaller screen could also be a detriment.

WORTH CONSIDERING - Wartile brings diorama-based table top gaming to the Nintendo Switch with a Vikings and Norse mythology fictional theme. While the game excels at making a highly creative and unique artistic presentation, many of the game's features felt somewhat incomplete, marred further by a lack of clear game progression and a missed opportunity for stronger miniature character leveling up. Still, gameplay is fairly fluid once you get used to it, and the thematic settings are great. If you’re craving a digital table top micro-experience, Wartile might be something you’ll want to check out despite its shortcomings.

Wartile: Complete Edition captures the essence of tile board games on console. Playwood Project's combat system mixes real-time elements with a card system and character growth. The weak storyline and control issues don't significantly detract from the overall enjoyable experience.

This game may have fell short of the potential I feel it had, but I nonetheless hope to see more from PlayWood Project Aps in the future.

All in all, Wartile is a fair indie game: it is different, well-executed and humble. If you like tabletop games or if you are just looking for something different, tactical and fun, you will not regret the 15 hours spent moving the Vikings from hexagon to hexagon.

I recommend Wartile for several reasons. First and foremost, it's a very competent strategy game, and it's worth it. The second is its visual style, with models and miniatures. The third thing is the blow to the player that it is a real-time game and not a turn-based game.

While graphically Wartile might not be much of a looker, the gameplay is where it really matters, and although the game started off a bit tough to navigate, once you’re through that hurdle, it’s quite an enjoyable experience, especially if you are into Dungeons & Dragons or Warhammer.

Playwood Games ApS, a developer from Denmark, presents us with Wartile a strategy game with a Nordic medieval fantasy theme. There are many games that explore this genre. But what makes Wartile special is the work they did to give us the feeling that we are in a board game. It has a fairly high difficulty curve, which can be tortuous. It bothers the way the characters move on stage, but above all, the mechanism to choose our character in the fight.
